Pildo Labs has been leading and managing on behalf of Eurocontrol all the activities related with EGNOS/SBAS operational validation, and represents the Agency in the Certification forums coordinated by the GNSS Supervisory Authority. In that frame, Data Collection Network was created in 2001, to acquire experience but also develop procedures on how to assess and validate the performance provided by new augmentation systems like EGNOS. This data collection network is composed by multiple stations hosted at Universities locations, complemented by the contributions from Air Navigation Service Providers interested on certifiying and providing SBAS services in their national air space (among others AENA Spain, DTI/DSNA France, NATS UK, ENAV Italy, NAV Portugal, Skyguide Switzerland, PANSA Poland).
All collected data is managed by Pildo, in charge not only of developing all the software used to process the data as per defined in the avionics standards, but also the definition of procedures and accumulation of results to present them in a coherent manner to the Regulator body in charge of the ESSP certification as EGNOS Operator.

Med@con: the Meda Region Data Collection Network
Aware of the uselfullness of such infrastructure, Pildo was granted two years ago in the METIS project, part of the European Commission 6th Framework Programme, for its extension in the Mediterranea region, including North of Africa region. The Med@Con network, part of METIS project managed by Telespazio Italy, is an extension in the africa region for stations equipped with EGNOS receivers able to collect and produce performance reports authomatically.
This infrastructure includes already some stations in Africa, as Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt and is expected to grow further in a coordinated manner with the future extension of EGNOS services in the Mediterranean and Africa region.
