On December 4th-5th, the Galileo Information Centre (GIC) for Latin America, hosted by Polytechnic College of University Federal of Santa Maria, RS, organizes the first Galileo Summer School in partnership with CRECTEALC and INPE
Since its opening in December 2005 the GIC is being the focal point for the promotion of GALILEO services and applications in the region, supported by the regular news and information distributed through its virtual centre as well as the organization of successful events like those 2-days training course the “Galileo Information Days” previously organized in March 2007 San Jose dos Campos.

The Galileo Summer School, with more than 80 registered students from the region, aimed to offer a complete and robust education on Galileo System, Services and Applications. The training introduced the GNSS and Galileo, where were presented the system architecture, definition and available services. Applications in various domains, including cartography, urbanism, precision agriculture, were presented showing the large field of sectors of excellence of such a system. In the frame of the International Cooperation Projects supervised by the European GNSS Supervisory Authority (GSA), the CELESTE Project represented by ATECH (Fernando Salla, Brasil) and TELESPAZIO (Diego Gonzalez, Argentina) presented the main outcomes of the project and foreseen activities.
The LATINO Project in charge of the organization of the Summer School and represented by Pildo Labs, leader of the LATINO Consortium presented the Galileo Information Centre activities performed and the scheduled events to fulfil its mission of increasing awareness on Galileo in the region.
