Innovative and ambitious services and applications related Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) information are acquiring more and more importance due to the potential benefits for the world-wide community.
The Galileo programme, as the European GNSS initiative, represents a catalyst for the introduction of navigation and positioning applications in the worldwide wireless mass-market.
Education in global navigation and related applications appears to be the unique and most effective response to the industrial changing and innovative needs. In the next future a substantial amount of high-level skilled personnel will be engaged in production and management of innovative navigation-oriented applications.
The LATINO consortium strongly aims at fostering the GNSS knowledge transfer from Europe to Latin America establishing links between Universities and Research technical institutes from both sides of the ocean. From Latin America, we are talking about important institutions that have served for different generations on the formation of qualified technical experts on different fields and in particular the Satellite Navigation one.

Regional Centre for Space Sciences and Technology Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (CRECTEALC )
The Regional Centre for Space Science and Technology Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (Affiliated to the United Nations) – CRECTEALC , Partner of the Latino Consortium, mission is to organize programs on education, research and development of applications, with initial emphasis in the areas of remote sensing, satellite meteorology, satellite communications and space and atmospheric sciences in benefit of the countries of the region. The principal objective of the Centre is the development of skills and knowledge of university educators and research and application scientists, through rigorous theory, research, applications, field exercises, pilot projects and consultations in those aspects of space science and technology that can enhance social and economic development in countries of the region. Besides that, the Centre also gives high priority to the promotion of short courses and seminars, as well as educational programs for high school students, on relevant topics of space science and technology. The educational objectives of CRECTEALC include the promotion of graduate courses following the curricula, as suggested in the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs - UNOOSA document A/AC.105/649 of 1996 and in the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Use of Outer Space - COPUOS documents A/AC.105/L.238 to 241.
